Hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT) is the process of laying or sitting inside a pressurized chamber for one hour to two hours per session to “squeeze” ambient oxygen into the cells, which in turn will help improve healing at all levels since oxygen is required for all metabolic action. Hard chamber hyperbaric treatment pressurizes a hard chamber up to 3 times more atmospheric pressure than normal atmospheric pressure and a soft chamber mild hyperbaric oxygen treatment pressurizes 1.3 to 1.5 times normal atmospheric pressure (ATA).

Hard chamber higher pressure hyperbaric oxygen treatment (usually 2.0 ATA or higher) is very useful for wound healing, like for a diabetic foot that may need to be amputated if it is not quickly healed, or when divers surface too quickly and need to be pressurized again to reduce potential problems. Depending on the facility and the chamber, pure oxygen may also be added to the chamber to increase oxygen levels even more. Hard chamber treatments are often priced between $250 and $350 per session, depending on where one lives, and the type of chamber being used.

Soft chamber mild hyperbaric oxygen treatment is lower pressure (1.3 – 1.5 ATA) and is useful in treating brain injury and can help improve the healing of virtually any health condition. The pressurized air in the chamber literally “squeezes” oxygen into the cells and in most cases, oxygen is given directly to the lungs via a mask to maximize oxygen uptake into the body.

This is very powerful healing therapy that I have personally used and witnessed great benefit from. Since 2012 I’ve done dozens of soft chamber sessions at 1.3 and 1.5 ATA at 60 or 90 minutes and always felt better after doing those sessions. In 2023 I went into a hard chamber and did over 15 sessions at 2.0 ATA for 90 or 120 minutes per session. Of particular note is that my ability to drink alcohol and not feel sick the very next way went away, among other benefits.

For serious issues, the typical number of sessions is forty, with some time off, and then another forty sessions. If you cannot find a mild hyperbaric oxygen facility near you, you can also go to a hard chamber facility, though, it will cost more.

If cost is a factor for you, then I recommend you do five sessions five days in a row, at 90 minutes or 120 minutes per session. This will boost your oxygen levels dramatically and promote healing in a short timeframe. By doing the sessions day after day, you will be building that oxygen – that healing ability – rather rapidly.
You can also purchase or rent hyperbaric chambers, but before you make that commitment, I recommend you go to a clinic (if possible) for at least a couple few times to see what it’s all about.
